Position: Sr Manager-Quality Education and Life Skills

PROFILE
Rainbow Homes Program runs with state governments residential schools and care homes for former street girls and boys in many cities across India. Many of these children raised in our care are now growing into adulthood.

Rainbow Homes Program runs with state governments residential schools and care homes for former street girls and boys in many cities across India. The former street girls and boys live mostly in the campus of existing government schools. After a bridge course, they join government (and occasionally private schools). The children are available to us 24×7 for most of the year.

We are convinced that our educational support for these children includes, but only as one component, to help improve their academic performance. More importantly, the purpose is to develop capacities for critical thinking, a scientific temper, empathy and compassion, social awareness and a commitment to constitutional values, life education preparing them to deal with and heal from their very difficult childhoods, building responsible relationships, gender and sexuality, and constructive citizenship.

Role
The role of the Senior Manager Education is to organize the comprehensive education of these children outside school hours. This includes, but only as one component, to help this improve their academic performance. More importantly, the purpose is to develop capacities for critical thinking, a scientific temper, empathy and compassion, social awareness and a commitment to constitutional values, life education preparing them to deal with and heal from their very difficult childhoods, building responsible relationships, gender and sexuality, and constructive citizenship.

We are looking for persons who are formally trained in education, and have experience in designing, implementing and monitoring educational plans. We would like to have leaders in education who have experience in innovative educational methods, that are not built around conventional rote learning and focus merely on passing examinations, but a much more comprehensive understanding of education for critical thinking, social responsibility, empathy and compassion.

Since our children are from very diverse backgrounds, a conviction about caste, gender, class and religious equality and harmony are non-negotiable for this position.

Qualification and expected skills
Post-graduate/Graduate in preferably Education/ Social Work/ Development Studies with 10 years of experience. At least 5 years should be in the area of Education.
Must be passionate in the work of education
Experience of conducting trainings, developing curriculums, designing teaching methodologies
High quality writing and communication skills
Ability to work with diversified teams and be a good team player
Willingness to travel to other states; as per program needs.
Skills Required
This is a key role requiring the highest level of Multi-Tasking / Decisive / Policy creation / Conducting Trainings / Develop Curriculums and Design Teaching Methodologies / Team Management

The candidate must have the disposition of keeping children front & center and designs systems around them – and not try to fit them into the system. Being able to train and even re-train teachers to help them in meeting life skill educational needs of vastly different children.

Key responsibilities
Design and develop a curriculum content based on skills that includes, but is not limited to: financial literacy, employment skills, hygiene, health, sexuality, food literacy, drug awareness, mental wellness, educational planning, tenant’s rights, first aid, leadership, relationship building, self – esteem, networking skills, arts and music, citizenship etc.
Collaborate with the home team, experts & agencies, review existing approaches, curriculums in use locally, research relevant secondary data, undertake field visits and meet with other key stakeholders to develop the curriculum.
Prepare appropriate and attractive training materials, training modules, teaching aids required for the delivery of the module.
Prepare and present an outline of the curriculum (contents, delivery and timeframe).
Test the curriculum at home level with the staff & prepare the final copy based on the feedback and field-testing results.
Steer the delivery of the curriculum-based life and employability skills workshops and monitor to make appropriate revisions.
Document & share report of activities/ progress/challenges on a monthly basis.
Undertake responsibility for some tasks, as directed by the team lead, beyond this description but which are important for overall program/organisational outcomes.

JOB LOCATION: Delhi for initial 2 years later Hyderabad

Amount of consultancy: Rs 75000/- per month – negotiable based on the competencies and experience
