The Windows Engineer III serves in a Tier 2 & 3 Engineering and Administration Role. This involves supporting and maintaining the different revenue generating business verticals on the Microsoft Windows Platform (OS and Web applications). This position is responsible for the installation, configuration, technical administration, tuning, and monitoring of the Windows OS environment. Additionally they will need to work with other IT Infrastructure teams and business partners such as application and database support as part of their daily role. They will also be responsible for working with the project teams on Environment Migration and supporting all development activities. Responsible for the definition, planning and execution of all infrastructure activities required to support Windows systems.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Server Production Support and Management
Create and Build VM server templates and maintain according
Install server operating system software, front-end and back-end server components, and production application services according to defined requirements and data center operations standards
Take on SME ownership of business systems and product infrastructure as they are assigned
Support & maintain both customer-facing production systems and QA and Dev systems
Heightened sense of urgency AND caution regarding production issues and systems is imperative
Installing code releases and software packages on servers
Develop and maintain documentation including server build docs, configuration standards, infrastructure architecture
Maintain and administer a large Windows Server environment
Understand DNS (Internal and External) Management including MX and SPF records
Responds to incidents to avoid system outages or restore availability to meet service level objectives. Performs problem determination, problem resolution, and root cause analysis.
Participates in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency support and maintenance of a 24x7 Production Environment.
Responsible for managing projects for hardware/software deployments and modifications involving the Production Environment.
Develops detailed project plans for large projects and drive to completion
Responsible for gathering relevant data to determine system capacity needs and make plans for capacity expansions in a proactive manner.
Responsible for development and configuration practices that ensure a high level of performance and optimize capacity utilization.
Provides requirements to the Systems Monitoring group for metrics, alerts and escalations.
Serves as a point of escalation for performance problems that cannot be resolved by the Support Staff.
Researches new methods for enhancing performance and shares findings with the Engineering team and the Engineering Leadership committee.
Participates in the BCP Strategy of the IT Infrastructure.
Contributes to processes & procedures that align with the companies DR strategy
Automate processes and tasks using Powershell and other automation suites
At least 6+ years of experience supporting Windows server platforms
Team leadership and collaboration with multiply groups
Web system experience required on various IIS version (6.0,7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5)
Experience with load balancing appliance such as F5 BigIP or Citrix NetScaler, Viprion
Strong understanding of disaster recovery, backup and restoration procedures
Experience with VMWare/ESX, building servers in a virtual environment
Experience with SAN storage
Experience in a Windows Server 2008 R2, 2012, 2016
MCSE certification preferred, if not need to show the ability to demonstration of knowledge and skills that are equivalent
Proficient in business software, including MS Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Visio applications
Experience with Web application workflow preferred or service with this type of SaaS model
Experience in troubleshooting network (LAN) software related to operations, administration, user accounts, and systems security
Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
Must demonstrate excellent customer services skills and the ability to communicate with individuals of all levels internal and external to the organization
Flexible to work overtime as required; some overnight work may be required and on-call duties required
Able to sit or stand for frequent periods in the same location with some opportunity to move about
