Creative Director @Razorpay
Razorpay is one of the leaders among FinTech players in India, and our customer obsession has played a huge role in paving the way till here. Crisp visuals, with the wow factor, have always given a front seat to Razorpay at the table of design. In terms of brand, we have been able to establish ourselves as one of the most well-known players in the tech space. Going forward, the vision is to establish the brand of Razorpay with such distinction that it is easily recognizable at every nook and corner of the country.
Designers in the Razorpay brand studio team are focussed on creating engaging narratives across online & offline mediums to help people understand the power of our products by building a disruptive brand. Brand Studio team has communication and brand designers who are looking for a leader who is passionate to push the bar of design excellence while driving the brand vision forward. The ideal candidate is proactive about encouraging, coaching, offering critical yet constructive feedback to the team, and leading from behind (and roll up your sleeves when needed). Lastly, he/she knows what it takes to keep a team inspired and motivated in their work, and able to see how their individual contributions connect to the bigger picture – the company goals, and customer needs. This role will be reporting to our Head of design.
We are looking at someone who has built and managed incredible creative teams across communication & brand design aspects in technology startups. On a normal day, she/he might be leading a brainstorming session to come up with a vision for a go-to-market campaign of a product, critiquing the narrative in our product home pages, or refining Razorpay brand prominence in our external brand campaign.
What would you work on?
Team Leadership (Motivation and Articulation)
Define a north star in terms of creative expression of the Razorpay brand. Collaborate with Marketing, Product Marketing, Brand Strategy, Design, and Product teams to build and maintain an inspiring and challenging brand that will help us keep an edge over our competition.
For a given initiative, lead a cross-disciplinary team of Marketing, Content, and Design through the full creative lifecycle from discovering customer needs to define a solution.
Deliver solutions with agility and consistency while maintaining the design excellency that Razorpay has been able to establish over the years.
Work closely with our Head of Design and Design Managers to develop our design culture and the corresponding set of processes across the team.
Develop a distinct form of storytelling for the brand by focusing on the latest trends, styling advice, and stories of inspiring people.
Create, maintain, and manage the brand language systems with very high production quality.
Think on a campaign level and execute big-picture ideas. Create unique, compelling visual content that engages new and potential customers reflects the consumer mindset and our brand architecture complements and amplifies campaigns, and supports key business initiatives.
Conceptualize new and innovative ways to incorporate content and commerce. Deliver brand and product storytelling consistently across all channels across customer and associated touch-points.
Define principles for the creative and content teams to follow, ensure creative output is coherent and aligned with organizational goals and customer needs.
Have an eye for detail and extensive understanding in overseeing the implementation of visual systems with accuracy, consistency, and high levels of quality.
Ideation and Brainstorming
Deliver insight, direction, and feedback on projects in all stages of production. Facilitate a fresh and inspiring creative direction that helps to clearly communicate through our products.
Kick-off brainstorms with marketing, sales, and pr team.
Design Advocacy and Evangelism
Be a strong advocate for exceptional visual experiences and demonstrate their impact. Evangelize the goals of the brand studio and communicate them to the marketing, product, and other teams in the organization.
Represent Razorpay outside by speaking in external design conferences/meetups, publishing blogs/articles, or running events.
Resource Management and Collaboration
Take responsibility for the growth of the communication and brand design team. Help them grow their soft and hard skills. Help them define their career paths, identify opportunities, and level up to do the best work of their lives.
Take responsibility for attracting and hiring excellent people. You’ll work to create the systems for you (and others) to effectively evaluate and hire designers.
Build strong relationships throughout the company to help unify our narrative and amplify our mission internally and externally. Work closely with Marketing, Product, Engineering and various Business teams to deliver delightful customer experiences.
Manage the team and outcomes
Own a team of multi-disciplinary designers consisting of brand designers, communication designers, and content strategists.
Along with the design managers, manage various design projects and their priorities. Help the team in resolving blockers. Ensure the output meets business goals, deadlines, and the quality bar.

At least 12+ years of experience in designing digital products.
A portfolio of kickass design work, executed either by yourself or a team that you led, that conveys an ability to ship successful products that people love.
A great understanding of Branding and Visual Design with relentless attention to detail and consistency.
Awareness and practical understanding of current technologies, and their application and relevance to digital media and consumer consumption.
You’re creative-minded and intensely customer-focused. You care about design all the way from a strategic level down to design details and getting the pixels right.
Good to have: experience with creative design projects on the likes of animated videos, motion graphics, and videography.
Understanding the importance of behavioral analytics. You go by data-driven when applicable and understand nuances of it. Experience with various analytics tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc would be awesome.
You have at least 4 years of experience in leading and managing creative teams. You have been managing, coaching, and leading teams. You’re passionate about growing and developing designers’ skills and careers. You inspire and motivate your team to do their best work, while being fully aligned with the business and marketing goals.
You love the change and know how to manage it. You can work effectively in a dynamic environment, juggle multiple projects, and prioritize work. Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development process is a big plus.
You have excellent communication and presentation skills. You are able to clearly articulate design decisions within a larger context to the team and leadership.
