  • To assess the patients on admission.
  • To take detailed history and physically examine the patient.
  • To be responsible for sending the patient for the appropriate investigation as directed by the primary consultant and also to authorize investigations which are urgent.
  • To be responsible for initiating treatment for the patient.
  • To ensure that all of the consultant’s instructions are complied with.
  • He/ she is to complete the In-Patient rounds everyday before 10.30 am, and fill the case sheets and progress notes (SOAPE format) without fail.
  • To continually monitor and review patient’s progress and adjust the management plan when necessary.
  • To ascertain that the necessary cross referrals have been made. To communicate the opinion of other specialists to the primary consultant.
  • To check the dosage, frequency, route of administrations of all medications, considering all precautions.
  • To take appropriate initiatives in Medical Emergencies when required.
  • To explain all procedures before hand and take appropriate consents.
  • To do the IDR for all new patients.
  • To educate the patients and their families regarding the disease and the care plan.
  • To appropriately lend a caring hand to any patient and / or their families.
  • To ensure that the patients` and their family rights are protected.
  • To work in cooperation with other staff members in the wards and exhibit team work.
  • Maintain good grooming standards, dignified behaviour and punctuality.
  • To comply with documentation as per hospital standards.
  • To check the open and closed records and see that the records are adequately maintained.
  • To prepare the discharge summaries well in time and brief the patient about the medications on discharge.
  • To do night and holiday duty as per the roster.
  • To follow all applicable hospital policies, procedures, practices and participate organizational quality initiatives ensuring the safest possible environment for patients, patients` family and staff.
  • To apply clinical pathways where applicable.
  • To check all sick babies (NICU and Wards) periodically and appraise the consultants.
  • To perform major procedures that is lumbar puncture, bone marrow aspiration etc.
  • To administer surfactant and other major procedures
  • To prepare the discharge summaries well in time and brief the patients about the medications on discharge.
  • To check the resuscitation kits and emergency carts for availability of all necessary items.
  • To help the residents whenever they have problems in performing any procedures, venous access etc.
  • To follow hospital practices and demonstrate initiative aligned to ensure the safest possible environment for patients and staff.
  • To attend all clinical meetings and workshops and actively participate in paper presentations.
  • To be part of training programmes conducted in the hospital and to take continuous initiatives for knowledge and skill up-gradation.
  • Must be able to demonstrate competency in all of the following areas:
  • Basic Life Support.
  • NABH Training.
  • Fire Safety.
  • Emergency Preparedness.
  • Radiation Safety.
  • Pain Management.
  • Waste Management Protocols.
  • International Standards and Organization standards.
  • Infection Control Protocol.
  • To participate in Medical camps, cover events as and when required.
  • To carry out the instructions of the Management as and when required.
