The following is a broad description of what is part of job deliverables. However, the individual will shape this to some extent according to his/her own special skills and to the Business needs.
Synthesize and characterize new polyols for PODer business
Develop significant depth and breadth of knowledge regarding polyols and competitive products, develop familiarity with associated process technology
Develop significant depth and breadth of knowledge regarding the actions and chemical properties of polyols at the molecular level and its impact on foam properties
Provide technical advice regarding product properties, product applications, formulation guidance, and sustainability
Assess customer needs and work closely with Process technologist and Product team to develop and support new business opportunities.
Represent Shell in industry associations, technical organizations, and/or academic collaborations
Write technical reports and procedures
Supervise and coach laboratory technicians
Demonstrate HSE leadership, and ensure compliance with all Group, Regulatory, Quality and other appropriate standards
Lead/participate in margin improvement and portfolio broadening activities, understand technical developments in areas of polyols, Competitive landscaping and IP tracking. Lead and/or support the delivery of the Development Release program for new activities; ensuring appropriate support for successful deployment of the Development in current and new facilities.
Role covers a broad range of activities including:
Leading new technology development programs.
Providing technology services and research expertise to the PODer technologists, Support implementation of process and/or design-improvements.
Leading and supporting process development for PODer projects.
Coach and mentor young recruits.
Role is positioned in the PODer Centre of Excellence which is currently located in Shell Technology Centre Bangalore (STCB).
The PO Derivatives (PODer) technology group works as an integral part of the Global PODer community with staff in Projects & Technology organization and manufacturing locations. The group provides technical support to PODer plants as well as projects. During the last decade the PODer business has successfully gone through a period of considerable expansion with new plants in the Netherlands, Singapore and China. PODer is recognized as an important area for growth in Chemicals.
The incumbent will be expected to develop a personal network and to fully exploit existing networks and competences within the Shell organization. He/she will deliver high quality services to the business by seeking a clear understanding of technical problems, customer needs and requirements. The incumbent will work in close cooperation with the manufacturing and Product line to provide optimal support to the PODer business.
The PODer researcher works as one amongst equals. However, he/she will from time to time lead project teams and be expected to coach other members of the team. An important dimension for the job is to build and maintain long-term relationships with peers and managers in the wider organization inside and outside P&T.

Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a major in organic/polymer synthesis
Hands-on synthesis and characterization of new materials
Experience or familiarity with analytical techniques such as GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, elemental analysis; experience with extending or developing novel experimental techniques beneficial
Working knowledge of intellectual property
