Job Description

This position is for the role of Applications (Senior) Engineer in the AVR-8 Applications Group in the MCU-8 (8-bit) Applications Department. The job involves the following:
As an Application Engineer, the candidate will be closely interacting with (Atmel's) many customers, helping them develop their next product based on AVR 8-bit microcontrollers, utilizing a wide range of technologies. In addition, the candidate should contribute with feedback and ideas, based on customer experience, into Atmels next generation of products. The candidate will be part of a highly qualified and growing team of Electrical/Electronics Engineers and System Engineers, supporting MCU customers in a global environment, ensuring guaranteed embedded design success for the customer.
Be an expert on 8-bit AVR microcontrollers, successfully aiding internal teams in product definition of features and specifications for next generation of devices. Support root cause analysis, tools development, ease of use as well as supporting customers in all phases of their designs, and how to implement them to create fully functional applications
Write application notes and technical material that describe concepts and usage of peripherals or cutting edge technology into end user applications. Identify common and reoccurring challenges for customers and resolve this to scale support efficiently. Solve general issues once and for all.
Develop cool demo applications to highlight the key features of AVR products for use by the sales force and at tradeshows or that our customers can use as a blueprint reference for their application development. Debug, modify and patch existing code to resolve bugs, or add required functionality or tailor performance to meet the customers needs.
Attend tradeshows, customer trainings and technology days to represent and demonstrate AVR products
Provide technical support to Sales and key customers, with focus on AVR and integration of AVR with other Atmel products and technologies. Engage with Atmels user communities and mass-market outreach programs.
Visit customers in all industries, segments, and locations in the world for on-site critical support and training on all software, tools and devices, finding root cause, and providing solutions utilizing your embedded C and Assembly programming skills as well as experience in system-level hardware debugging.
Run trainings on the broader support organization on AVR products, to enable first line support and the field teams to resolve majority of issues. Produce world-class training material for Atmel Sales and Customer seminars, and participate in training and seminars to promote and boost activity around AVR.

Requirements:
4 to 6 years of experience designing embedded applications.
Prior experience with embedded firmware development and hardware design / development and debugging.
Experience with customer interaction and project execution.
Experience with design and/or analysis of schematics and printed circuit boards.
Bachelor or Master Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
Fluency in English written and oral.
Experienced - C programming and Assembly language knowledge are mandatory. C++ on embedded systems is an added preference.
Passion to learn and share knowledge and willingness to invest in learning new skills.
You tolerate sudden and frequent changes in priorities, and are able to balance many tasks in parallel.
Willing to help colleague and to ask for help when stuck. Work with colleagues as a team, and assist even when you have different priorities. Set the team above yourself.
Familiar with software development processes, and test-driven development.
Experience with customer interaction.
Social skills: you appreciate social activities, and are curious to meeting new people
