Director - Market Research & Data Acquisition
Help manage data as a corporate asset. Identify and understand the use of new, existing and legacy data assets, thus increasing efficiency and re-use of data
Responsible for all company data assets, especially those built for our data services projects. Lead and supervise our data services team and ensure smooth day-to-day operations for each data project with our COO.
Responsible for Data strategy (acquire, build, append, refresh, reuse, and monetize); data warehousing and database management; data governance, control and policy development. Focus on maintaining data quality and exploitation of data assets to create value for customers.
In their leadership capacity, the Director of Data Services will oversee strategic data priorities for various projects and guide the data services team on which data to store, analyse, build and exploit for every project. This will also include identifying new and accurate data sources and build the most efficient mechanisms for data acquisition
In their leadership capacity, the Director of Data Services will act as a thought leader, defining a projects data strategy and data roadmap. This will require determining how best to leverage existing data assets and acquire any new data asset from public sources. An understanding of automation (for data capture and mapping) through technology, data processes and policies will be required.
The Director of Data Services will be responsible and accountable for overall quality and timely delivery of all data projects within the organization. They will work closely with the IT department in organizing and creating an environment that makes data and information accessible with appropriate channels of access controls. In this collaborative role, they will also work with key internal and external stakeholders as well as department leaders and executives, fostering a relationship of trust and playing an advisory role for all data projects.
The Director of Data Services will also help append existing data assets and keep them refreshed through the right processes, database management policies, and technologies. A good understanding of relevant technologies and database management platforms (such as SQL Server) are a must.
In their leadership position, this person will also play a mentorship role to key personnel within the data department, assisting in the execution of their function, and encouraging constant growth and efficiency.
Key requirements -
This will be a highly collaborative role. Hence, it is imperative that the candidate have exceptional communication skills, and is able to understand customer requirements, communicate these with clarity, conviction and precision to the data team, and build and execute a roadmap that ensures output that exceeds customer expectations.
At least 7 years of working experience in a senior role within the data services and demand generation space. Should have hands-on experience in executing data projects and exceeding customer expectations. As well as experience with hands-on leadership roles directly managing data teams (preferably marketing data / demand generation teams) and driving change with data organizations.
Good technology insight and awareness. The Director of Data Services should be able to proactively identify and leverage the right technology for data acquisition, data warehousing and data mining processes and projects. This includes knowledge of the front-to-back data lifecycle, prevalent big data tech infrastructure, and a wide array and relevant data quality tools, database management platforms, and scripting languages.
An understanding of self-service data preparation mechanisms, a plus.
Interpersonal Skills: A suitable candidate will also be a result-driven individual, be highly creative and analytical, be a strategic thinker, have an ability to work comfortably in a collaborative setting, be comfortable working with business top-leadership and executives, be highly organized, have an ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects and meet tight deadlines, and have an innate ability to remain calm and composed during times of uncertainty and stress.
